The Annex

This house in the Annex had an array of original well proportioned rooms at the front, and a collection of spaces at the back that didn’t match the same elegance and flow. An extensive renovation to the rear of the home, and a modest as-of-right addition, allowed this heritage home to open to the light of the rear garden, while creating a warm and welcoming suite of living spaces and a gracious primary bedroom.

A new dining room with a conical ceiling was created in place of an overly long existing room, reproportioning it to be half the length and twice the height. A series of small bedrooms on the second floor were reconfigured into a primary suite with two closets, a gracious bathroom and a bedroom with a 10′ tall window to the rear garden.

The distinctive Petersen Cover was used to clad the addition, maintaining the colour and feel of the existing brick house, but updating the construction method, wall assembly, and cladding to today’s standards.
