House on a Slope

With the intent to diminish the presence of built form relative to views of the valley, this courtyard house nestles into a slope with entry from above. Shared spaces and the master suite are located on the first level, while children’s bedrooms and a living room are situated on the floor below. The shifting nature of the volumes results in terracing that diminishes visible retaining walls. A glass-bottomed reflecting pool in the top courtyard helps to bring light to the deeper areas of the lower level while all primary spaces have unfettered views of the valley and hills beyond.
