Slip Desk

Slip Desk is an investigation of hybrid modes of veneer-based and solid hardwood construction techniques. CNC milling was used exclusively as a distinguishing characteristic between veneer and solid, highlighting the intended tactile moments in the project.

The program for the desk, from pencil drawers to a printer and paper resource center, was organized to allow for a milled cherry block to intersect all operable doors and drawers. The solid wood reads as a continuous carved surface with finger pulls integrated into its form. In contrast, the cherry veneer used on the flat surfaces of the desk was detailed with a thin edge band to further enhance the thinness of the material.
